Community After Schools Project (CASPr)

For over 30 years the Community After School Project has worked in the North East Inner City to tackle poverty, inequality, addiction, educational disadvantage and injustice.

Our goal is to stop children from leaving school early. We also provide accredited education and training for adults who did not get a fair chance in school. We work with other organisations who want to reduce poverty and disadvantage and improve life in the North East Inner City.

We run two after-school programmes for up to 70 children, five days a week. We also run a crèche for 15 children, five mornings a week. Alongside this, we provide adult and community education in partnership with the Dublin City Community Co-operative and the City of Dublin Education and Training Board.

We work closely with local community groups and statutory services to support children who are most at risk. Through the Young People at Risk protocol, we help develop and carry out care plans for children who need extra support. We are also an active member of the North Inner City Community Coalition and work with partners across the area to support the wider community.

In 2025 we established the Listen to Us project funded as part of the Daphne Child programme an initiative of Eurochild. This project empowers children in Dublin’s North-East Inner City (NEIC) to lead a community-wide conversation about violence prevention, with a focus on drug-related violence. Through participatory workshops, children aged 7 to 12 will share their experiences and ideas, creating a child-led campaign to inspire resilience and safety among their peers.

The project is supported through the Daphne-CHILD programme, a European initiative led by Eurochild and Terre des Hommes and funded by the European Union  through the Citizens Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme. The programme supports grassroots organisations across nine European countries working to prevent violence against children while ensuring children themselves participate in shaping solutions.
